Fluoride Application.
A Fluoride application is a process in which a
Fluoride-based varnish is applied to the teeth so that they remineralize, and
thereby prevent the formation of cavities. To do this, we must first carry out
a prophylaxis or dental cleaning where all the bacterial plaque or calculus
that is present in the mouth is removed.
Then we apply a prophylactic paste with the
help of a small brush placed on the bottom piece, this is done in a circular
manner on all sides of the teeth, and then rinsed with plenty of water. Once the teeth are clean, we proceed to place
the fluoride in a bowl and apply it with a small brush on all sides of the
teeth from top to bottom, starting in the upper right quadrant, then the upper
left and ending with the lower ones.
Finally, we ask the patient to close their mouth to aspirate the saliva and the rest of the product. As a last step, we instruct the patient not to eat very sweet or acidic foods for 2 hours, not to brush their teeth with toothpaste until the next day, and if they feel heavy, just rinse with water. As a recommendation we tell the patient that the next application is in 6 months.
